This course is ideal for people who require an annual update and have already gained experience and understanding of Medication Administration.

• Knowledge and skills to administer medication within a health and social care setting.
• Administer Medicines in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, guidance and best practice.

At the end of the session attendees will be familiar with:

• Understand legislation, policy and procedures. General principles and specific legislative knowledge around the use of medication in health and social care settings
• Knowledge of common types of medication and their use
• Understand procedures, guidance and techniques for the administration of medication
• Knowledge of how to prepare for the administration of medication
• Understand the roles and responsibilities in the use of medication in health and social care settings
• Administer and monitor individual’s medication
• Understand the common medications available to, and appropriate for individuals with specific conditions - e.g. dementia, asthma, infections
• Understand the side-effects and contraindications of medication
• The ability to safely receive, store and dispose of medication
• Understand the rights of the individual when managing their medication - and how to promote these
• Understanding how to safely support the use of medication
• How to record and report on the use of medication

Important Information: A competency framework is included in this training. Competency is achieved in the workplace following the training. Each procedure needs to be signed off by a suitably qualified and experienced senior member of staff. The completed document can then be used in the workplace to identify the individuals’ competence.
