MOVING AND HANDLING TRAINING

Our Moving and Handling training is ideal for all workplace requirements, as it includes safer moving and positioning of people as well as manual handling of objects. Hoist and Moving Aid practical sessions are included. We recommend that you take our level 2 course if you work in any care environment.

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the issues surrounding moving of people and the handling of objects. Special education and training in working practice prevents the cause of physical harm and injury.

This course is ideal for people who have no prior experience or awareness of Moving and Handling and require an higher education of this subject matter.

This course is ideal for people who require an annual update and have already gained experience and understanding of Moving and Handling principles.

• Introduction and Legislation
• The impact of back injury
• The laws relating to manual handling
• The concept of risk assessment and its basis in law
• The anatomy, injuries and the spine
• Principles of lifting and the importance of good posture
• Recognising controversial moving and handling techniques
• Techniques used to move people safely without equipment
• Handling equipment and its use
• Recommended emergency techniques
• The theory of hoist and sling use
• Problem solving practical exercises
• Bariatric care
• Practical workstation and simulated practical assessment (including slings and hoist)

At the end of the session attendees will be familiar with:

• Stating the employees obligations and that of the employers with regard to manual handling.
• Understanding the consequences of poor manual handling practice.
• Defining the term Moving and handling.
• Identifying the correct techniques to move people and objects safely  in the work environment.
• Stating the actions to be taken in the event of a manual handling manoeuvre being required at their place of work.
• How to respond appropriately and safely to Moving and Handling related emergency or injury at their place of work.
  

Practical Session:

• Identify the correct manoeuvres for use on a range of different manual handling situations.
