This course provides knowledge base only and is facilitated in a full day.

• Level 3 Award [RQF] in Clinical Health: Venepuncture [2 day]

This course provides knowledge base and clinical skill and is facilitated over a 2 day period. Work based competencies are required to achieve the full award.

This course is ideal for clinicians who have no prior experience of Venepuncture and want to develop their clinical skills or require the achievement of work based competency.

Course: Venepunture Awareness [Update]

Duration: Half Day

Contact Hours: 3 hours

Certification: Awareness Course

Assessment Type: Knowledge Assessment and Work Based Competency Assessment

This course is ideal for clinicians who have already achieved competency to perform Venepuncture and require an annual knowledge based refresher or update. This course is also suitable for people who have a general interest in Venepuncture and do not require initial competency.

- Understand the definition and reasons for Venepuncture.

- Describe the anatomy and physiology relating to Venepuncture.

- Understand the legal and professional considerations.

- Identify the correct practice of infection control.

- Identify the safe handling of sharps and waste management.

- Identify safe systems of working.

- Describe potential problems that may arise during and from blood sampling.

- Describe how to respond safely and in a timely manner to an emergency.

- Identify the correct procedure for using the Vaccutainer System and develop an awareness of other systems that could also be used.

Important Information: A competency framework is included in this training. Competency is achieved in the workplace following the training. Each procedure needs to be signed off by a suitably qualified and experienced senior member of staff. The completed document can then be used in the workplace to identify the individuals’ competence.
